Iran announced on Wednesday (June 25, 2025) the execution by hanging of three men accused of spying for Israel, one day after a fragile ceasefire came into effect between these two arch-enemies. “Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasul Ahmad Rasul, who attempted to import equipment to carry out assassinations in the country, were arrested and tried for (…) cooperating in favor of the Zionist regime,” the Iranian judiciary said in a statement. “The sentence was carried out this morning (…) and they were hanged,” it added. The executions took place in Urmia, a northwestern city near the border with Turkey, according to the judiciary, which released photos of the three men.

Tehran often announces the arrests and executions of individuals suspected of working with foreign intelligence services, especially those linked to Israel. Since the outbreak of the war between Iran and Israel on June 13, Tehran has accelerated the trials of individuals suspected of collaborating with Israel.
